Official and fan music Deus Ex and System Shock

Hi, dear reader, with you zombies, and today we have a discussion of official and fan creativity on Deus Ex and System Shock.

Video version, as always, somewhere here

A couple of moments as usual.

The first point: today we are discussing only fan creation on the first Deus Ex and two systems of shocks, including a remake. Yes, I would very much like to discuss Human Revolution and Mankind Divved as, but, firstly, the blog already promises to be long. Secondly, in the framework of fan creation, we would have to discuss 2 Miracle of Sound songs, and these two songs mean a lot to me, and I do not want to pay little attention to them, so let’s better discuss them in another video.

The second point. It was originally planned that I would only tell you about fan creation, but in the end I realized that I was simply obliged to insert a couple of words about my attitude to the soundtracks of these games themselves, and that I should tell you, which in principle these soundtracks are out of myself. So the blog will be about the official music of these games too.

And the third point: of course, a huge number have been gained to these three old games and causes, and naturally, I do not want and will discuss absolutely everything that is on this topic. This one is simply unrealistic. Therefore, we discuss the most popular and notable things. And in a couple of cases there will be personal examples that I personally like, although they are not very popular.
I think this layout will suit everyone.

We will start, of course, from the soundtrack to the first deus ex.
Here, by the way, you can listen to it completely.
And I have to make a statement: I love the soundtrack of this game. He is my favorite glass in games in principle. I have many reasons to love this soundtrack.

The first reason: this is that he is very Easy to obey. You can’t even imagine how many times I put it background. I translated the book EX Black Light under the sound of the first dees. I put it in training, writing scripts or just when I walked along the street. He often comes up to the mood and place. For example, the topic of New York is good to listen to when you are walking along the streets of the metropolis in the dark.

This soundtrack Talentedly written, And this is the second reason for my love for him. It was immediately written by 5 composers: Alexander Brandon, Mikhil Van Den Bos, Dan Gardope, Reeves Gabrales and Brian Raj. And it would seem: well, crap should turn out, because for the most part we are accustomed to author’s soundtracks, when all the music for the game is written by one person. But in the case of Deus, the soundtrack, thanks to different composers, turned out to be very diverse and thereby attracting attention.
You literally hear how Each composer was expressed in a particular topic for a particular mission.

Whether the gloomy topics of Vandenberg.

. or unobtrusive club theme of the bar underworld.

. or to tears from the eyes Beautiful melody Chateau Dukeler.

And quite quickly you can see that DEUS EX soundtrack is not at all cyberpan.
This is how we are all used to? Topics in cyberpunk games are either a synthesis, or retrovey, or techno. But not the first Deus.

Here you hear pathos orchestral notes.

You have no feeling that these topics were written, you have the feeling that these topics were fired. And I really appreciate it.
How much this soundtrack is not Cyberpankov perfectly fit into the cyberpanic game, is admirable.

The fourth reason is that The soundtrack is suitable for locations. The authors were clearly given the task of writing the sound, starting from the location, and not from the genre of game.

You hear this topic and immediately understand that you have arrived in China.

In Paris, TS you hear in music the French style of sound.

In the zone 51, such a mysterious topic plays that you immediately understand. That I got to the place where strange experiments are conducted and aliens live (yes, I know that these are not aliens, I will have enough to write about it in the comments: D).

This is a great approach to writing https://nonukcasinosites.co.uk/fast-withdrawal-casinos music. I am not so much where I met this: so that the music corresponds to the locations, literally draws before the player’s eyes the place where he got, and clearly set the mood.

And finally the last reason for my love is that the soundtrack of the first de phase. Most likely, this has a more scientific name, but I don’t know what.

Each of us came across a phase soundtrack. This is when in calm One part of the track plays the situation – slower and smooth, but if you join the battle or sunk into front of enemies, as it comes into business The warhead track: fast, aggressive and dynamic.
The so -called Anxious Soundtrack phase, when you have not yet been sunk, but it will be about to happen.
So in Deus the soundtrack is divided into 4 parts:

And you always You can clearly distinguish them from each other. Yes, in my opinion, modern phase soundtracks make one mistake. The soundtrack always flows very smoothly from a calm phase into anxious, and then into a combat.
But in the first Deus ex, the phases are delimited, and they are delimited without transitions. Here you are in a calm phase, now you are in the combat, but the dialogue began.
Perhaps this spoils all this expirence from the sound. But not to me. On the contrary, I want it to be clearly clear to me where the calm phase broke. I only want to determine one music that the enemy sunk me.

And I already said, but let’s say again. The soundtrack is very beautiful. This is not only Chateau Dukeler.

Listen to how the dialogue phase of the soundtrack MJ-12 sounds.

Or how the dialogue phase of the unatco soundtrack sounds.

And my love for the soundtrack first de plays a cruel joke with me.
I rarely like remixes and covers on these topics. You can’t do better what is already perfect. You can only make him sound somehow different. But this, in my opinion, does not always justify the goal. A newly sounding topic from the old DE will not force me to love this new topic unreasonably. But still. Let’s finally see what fans have done there.

I said we’ll see what fans did there? Well, yes, yes. We will start with Conspiravision.

Full soundtrack Conspiravision can be listened to here

This is a collection of remixes for part of the DEUS EX. And two composers of the original soundtrack made this album: Brandon and Van Den Boss, who made most of the soundtrack of the first de. And to my great regret, Conspiravision – shit. How did you dare to run into the remixes, which the authors of the soundtrack themselves wrote, which you praised so many paragraphs in a row? The fact that he was written by the composers of Deus does not make him good.

See what tasks are usually faced with the author of remix?
A – Write something new. Remix should show the original theme from a different angle, reveal it from the new side of the sound.
B – remix has no right to go too far from the original, Otherwise, instead of remix, a new track will be obtained.
in – remix should be no worse, but ideally – Better original.

Conspiravion was written very unhealthy. These are not good remixes. They impudently violate all three rules of good remix.
First, Conspiravision is terribly boring. He sounds too calm, slowly, slowly, and he simply lulls the listener. And it’s bad.

The track of the combat phase, by the way. Well, I want to fight under this?

Not, well, if I want to fall asleep during listening and getting enough sleep well, then yes, it will suit me.
But it’s just unprofessional. The track must involve the listener, cause interest. The desire to sleep is not an emotion.

Secondly, some remixes will simply send original topics. Dukeler’s theme sounds just awful.

Thirdly, the second rule is often violated: the track of zones 51 and the topic of Hong Kong Outdated simply beyond recognition.

I listened to the background, while I wrote the previous article here, that is, I did not see the name of remixes. And I periodically did not understand at all what I was listening to Remix. I had to turn the window with the article and watch. Chinese theme, seriously?

So in general, yes, The conspiracy is made out. I do not know what Brandon and Van Den Bos wanted to say there 20 years after the release of the game. For me, they said only that they do not know how to do remixes. They are excellent composers, but they are shitty remixers.

In fairness, there is one track that sounds good, and this is the combat theme Unatco. Norm. Not brilliant, but not bad.

We are going further, and in line we are now really fan creativity. Soundtrack Revision.

Full soundtrack Revision can be listened to here

Revision soundtrack is not bad, I’ll tell you right away. But it is absolutely optional. Largely due to the fact that it is difficult to call it full and high-quality remixes on the topics of the first Deus Ex. John French and Logan Felber tried to modernize the soundtrack Deus, to give him the sound close to our time.

But the soundtrack of Deus is not outdated, he does not need shirt -bearing under modern sound. He to this day obeys as something modern.

These remixes do not violate the second rule, they all sound close to the original, and each of them is recognizable. But the problem lies in the same, because the first rule of good remix is disturbed. These remixes do not bring anything new. These are just slightly shoveled and modernized topics from Deus Ex and nothing more.

In any case, it is better than Conspiravision, but it is absolutely not the remixes that you want to add to the player and listen.

But it is still worth noting that some topics were made at least well with the Hong Kong track and the track of New York.

The theme of the final credits is also not bad.

And the most funny joke you know what is? Revision has several independent remixes, which, as I understood, were made as bonus tracks of the album. And so they sound great. It can be seen that on bonus tracks, the authors went on a detachment, as if they were ceased to restrain the fact that they write the sound for the game, and this creative gap only to the benefit of bonus tracks, they began to sound like something really original.

As a result, I can say that Revision soundtrack is not something outstanding. You can listen once, but listen to this soundtrack throughout the game. Yes, God forbid. And it’s good that Revision authors added the button to leave the original soundtrack. Perhaps they themselves guessed that their remix turned out at times worse than the original.

Well, now let’s move on to something more talented.

Channel Mothership LoudSpeakerz. And yes, now I will talk more about entire channels, one way or another dedicated to remixes on Deus Ex.
Mothership LoudSpeakerz, thank God, is a good example of talented remixes. The author clearly fumbles and clearly knows how to work with remixes really interesting.

He successfully observes all three rules of good remix, and he is cramping a good half of the tracks of Deus Ex.

And I must say that despite the length of the tracks (8-12 minutes) they obey in one breath, I never wanted to turn them off. They sound in a new way and at the same time recognizable. It is audible that the author came off as best he could, created from the heart and from his heart, mixed like a devil, accelerated, slowed down, wedged dialogs from the game and created something new.

In principle, I recommend listening to its other remixes to other games, including, there are a lot of worthy works there. In the playlist, the link to which I gave above, you can find remixes to some of your favorite games.

The next two channels go in the coupling. Helios and Alex Nes.
1. Remixes of one.
2. Remixes of the second.

Their remixes are quite similar: these are neat and relaxing synth-repsi. Both authors clearly write their work without straining and not squeezing something super-complex, in a good sense of these words. Pleasantly and easily obeys and despite the relaxing rhythm does not cause a desire to fall asleep. All topics recognizable and causing pleasant nostalgia for Deus ex.

I even want to note Alexa separately, since he also has cool tracks of tracks in addition to good tracks. I would even like to somehow save these covers separately without inscriptions.
